We’re Building a Different Kind of Ambulance Service
First Rescue was founded by two working paramedics who believe private EMS can be done better. Like many of you, we were dissatisfied with how many/most EMS companies do business. We know how it feels to work long, hard hours in cruddy stations using outdated, barely functioning equipment and trucks. Our ideas for change are relatively simple: the pay should be great, the standards high, and the job should be enjoyable.
Our expectations for patient care, documentation, equipment readiness, and professional conduct are exceptionally high. Patients and hospital staff should immediately recognize a difference when First Rescue walks in the door. We will accept nothing less than excellence, but in return, we pay very well - see our Compensation Info section below.
Minimum Requirements
2+ years of industry experience
Clean driving record
Must meet company vehicle insurance eligibility, which requires staff to be at least 25 years old
Must meet physical fitness standard: 2,000-meter Concept2 row for time
Significant Critical Care Transport (CCT) experience; FP-C/CCP-C certification preferred
Rockwall-Based Operations
Our current transport model primarily serves hospitals in the Rockwall area, including:
Baylor Scott & White Medical Center - Lake Pointe
Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall
Baylor Scott & White Emergency Hospital - Rockwall
Royse City Emergency Hospital
Schedule & Call Volume
We respect scheduled off-times and make operational decisions with crew work-life balance in mind. We don’t engage in mandatory OT or hold-overs. Our goal is to provide a schedule and workload that allows talented paramedics to build a sustainable, long-term career with First Rescue
12-hour shifts, 3 and 4 days per week alternating
Day shift: 07:00 - 19:00, or
Night shift: 19:00 - 07:00
Station Standards
Our newly built Rockwall station is intended to be somewhere crews actually enjoy spending time between calls. The station includes comfortable crew areas and amenities intended to make legitimate downtime actually feel like downtime.
This is a non-corporate environment with professional standards. On the call, exceptionally professional. Between calls, exceptionally comfortable. We hire experienced people and expect them to communicate, take ownership, use good judgment, and maintain the standards of the operation without unnecessary layers of management oversight.
We expect employees to follow basic station etiquette and take shared responsibility for maintaining the space. This includes cleaning up after yourself, respecting shared areas, properly storing equipment and supplies, and leaving the station ready for the next crew.
Equipment & Ambulance Standards
First Rescue has heavily invested in high-quality equipment because reliable, well-maintained equipment directly supports excellent patient care. Our crews utilize:
Hamilton T1 ventilators
Alaris 8000 Series IV pumps
LIFEPAK monitors
ESO electronic patient care reporting/charting
We are committed to updating, servicing, and maintaining our clinical equipment to high standards.
PAT Information
First Rescue Physical Abilities Test
Our goal at First Rescue is to maintain high physical standards, in line with our professional standards.
The PAT is a 2,000m row-for-time based on age, sex, and body weight (60th percentile), modeled after the Texas Department of Public Safety Concept2 row time standard.
Don’t expect to meet this standard with no rowing experience. We suggest that you seek access to a rower, watch tutorials online, and develop a form you find effective and comfortable.
2,000-Meter Row Calculator
Calculate the maximum time allowed to complete the First Rescue 2,000-meter Concept2 rowing assessment.
The required time is calculated using standardized age- and sex-based aerobic fitness norms together with body weight. The assessment is intended to establish a minimum level of cardiorespiratory fitness appropriate for the physical demands of ambulance operations.

First Rescue’s Compensation Principles
We’ve had experience with organizations that initially offer and/or advertise a great pay rate, but the offer falls short on paper.
We intend to provide not only a livable, but a comfortable wage for our staff. We expect more than other employers, and we pay more. With this round of hiring, we’re building our base - employees added to the small pool of people who will set our foundations.
We’re starting at $90k annually - minimum 2 yrs medic and CCT working experience requirement.
Alternating 3 and 4 12hr days a week in a two week pay period, that’s 76 regular hours and 8 OT hours (paid at time and a half).
We also offer a $2/hr increase for CCT certification, and a $5/hr night shift differential.
In the spirit of transparency, we provide a calculator on the left to estimate your annual and hourly rates. Keep in mind, your rate will depend on an evaluation, interpretation, and confirmation of your working experience.
